BA German (Literature Emphasis)(52 hours)
At least 18 hours of upper-division major credit must be taken in residence at BYU.
Major Requirements
- Complete the following Level 1 courses (may be waived with equivalent experience):
Germ 101 and 102, OR 103 (Intensive 101/102; 103 students should take one extra elective course)
- Complete the following Level 2 courses (may be waived with equivalent experience):
Germ 201 and 202, OR Intensive 201/202
- Complete 3 hours of one of the following:
Germ 211R, 311R or equivalent
- Complete the following Level 3 courses:
Germ 310; 320 and 321 OR 322 (Intensive 320/321; 322 students should take one extra elective course); 330; 343
- [Complete the following or other approved advanced writing course. (This is a university General Education requirement, rather than a major requirement):

- Complete Germ 450.
- Complete 14 additional hours of courses numbered higher than 343.
- Fourth year Grammar and final German proficiency examination: complete the following during one of the last two semesters before graduation (exam not offered spring or summer):
Germ 400R (1 hour required).
- Write a capstone paper. This can be done as a seminar paper, through German 315/415 Pro-Seminars, as an ORCA paper, or as an Honors Thesis. (Paper specifications listed in the portfolio.)
